Million dollar arm from a billion person pool

Hat tip to Ken on this story: Disney is making a movie called Million Dollar Arm, about a pair of cricket pitchers from India who win a reality show contest set up by sports agent J.B. Bernstein to try to find MLB pitching talent. Both Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel, the real life winner and runner-up of the contest, respectively, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Patel has since returned to India, but Singh remains in the Pirates minor league farm system as a lefty middle reliever. He pitched at A-ball last year and had solid stats (3.00 ERA, 8.1 K/9, 3.6 K/BB ratio), though he was very old for the level at 25 years old. Still, he obviously got a late start in his baseball career and thus can't be judged on the same timeline as other prospects.

Jon Hamm stars as Bernstein. India projects to the most populous country in the world in a few decades, it was only a matter of time before sports leagues looked to mine the market for potential talent.
